I4C Event- Activists against Authoritarianism: Defending Democracy in 2022
Dear Network Member,
The I4C/CSII Network is excited to invite you to our first live event that we are organizing as part of the “I4C Impact Journey”. I4C’s Impact Journey is a series of external events and internal discussions that will culminate with our Inter-Regional Retreat that will take place in Ecuador this September.
During the “Activists against Authoritarianism: Defending Democracy in 2022” event, we will explore innovative ways in which human rights activists on the frontlines are combatting authoritarianism in their different contexts. A Milk Tea Alliance organizer in Myanmar, a leader of the Unmask Them Campaign from Egypt, and a Women’s Human Rights Defender from Afghanistan will share their efforts and reflections on their respective efforts in combatting authoritarianism.
The storytelling session will be followed by a panel discussion with experts including ICNL, a partner of our East Asia Hub who is tracking Chinese misinformation broadly- and, more recently, Chinese misinformation related to Ukraine- and a youth activist from Ukraine. The conversation will be around the emerging trends of authoritarianism including restrictive COVID-19 laws, the cross-border and transnational influence of these regimes, and the need to strengthen inter-regional and global coordination between CSOs, activists, donors, and other stakeholders.
